About Dr Matt Brazel

Committed to helping rural Australians access specialist psychiatric care without the barriers of distance, cost, or long waits.

Our mission

Rural Psychiatry was established to close the gap in specialist mental health care for adults living outside major cities. For too long, rural communities have dealt with long waiting lists, limited local services, and the need to travel hundreds of kilometres for appointments.

We provide timely, bulk-billed telehealth assessments for eligible rural Australians, ensuring you can access expert advice without financial strain or leaving your community.

Professional background

Dr Matt Brazel is an Australian psychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). He works across public and private services, with experience in general adult psychiatry, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the management of ADHD in adults with an established diagnosis.

Having spent part of his childhood in Broken Hill and worked in regional services across Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales, Matt understands the unique challenges of rural health. These experiences shaped his commitment to improving access to specialist care for people living in the bush.

Away from the desk, Matt enjoys running, watching sport, and trying—mostly in vain—to keep up with his young family.
